David Ollech | Entrepreneur

Entrepreneur David Ollech, a partner at Fidem Holding, holds a BA in psychology. David is interested in BCIs (brain computer interfaces) and is currently considering setting up a business venture in this field. BCIs are direct communication links between the brain and an external device, such as a computer or robotic arm. They are often deployed to map, assist, research, repair or augment human cognitive or sensory motor functions, with a range of implementations – from non-invasive to invasive – dependent on how close the electrodes are to the brain tissue. Research in this field began in the 1970s, with the term ‘brain-computer interface’ first appearing in a 1973 paper by Jacques Vidal.

Hobbies & Interests

When he’s not working, David enjoys a diverse range of hobbies and interests; he plays the piano and drums, enjoys hiking, running and visiting the gym, and likes Middle Eastern, Japanese, Thai and Indian food. He also loves to read, citing a couple of his favourite books as The Pity of it All by Amos Elon and Gobel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter. The latter, published in 1979, explores concepts fundamental to intelligence, symmetry and mathematics through short stories, illustrations and analysis and discusses how knowledge can be stored and represented, what it means to communicate, symbolic representation and the idea of ‘meaning’ itself. David also likes to listen to music (especially that of Hozier, Thom Yorke, Alt-J, Beirut and Avishai Cohen) and is an avid traveller: some of his favourite destinations are Europe and Japan for skiing and India for the overarching spirituality of its culture.
